Pipette tip filters
Pipette Filter Media: Filtrona Porous Technologies bonded fiber filter media is uniquely suited to the demand for filter barriers for pipette tips used in laboratory microbiological sample analysis, PCR, isotrope work, and other applications, such as serotological pipette tip filters. Being fiber-based and not plastic, our products provide a host of performance characteristics that better protect liquid samples and pipettors from aerosol or other contamination and offer superior ease of handling and pipetting.
Surface Area
Bonded fiber tip filters feature smaller pore size yet less flow resistance. Pore size may be finely tuned down to 1.5 microns while maintaining sufficient flow resistance.

Below are Electron Micrographs of similarly sized cross sections of our Transorb Fiber (left) and sintered porous plastic (right). Our new, patented fiber system provides improved surface-volume ratio.

Air Flow
Polyolefin fibers aligned along the flow direction create a directionally porous structure to optimize filtration efficiency while allowing uniform air flow through the filter during pipetting.

Compression Force
Bonded fibers are typically more resilient than porous plastic, providing a slight "give" to the product. This resiliency allows for a snug, custom fit during assembly without damaging the tip itself and ensures against bypass aerosol transfer in the act of pipetting.

In addition to the above, Filtrona Porous Technologies fiber-based filter media provides these unique characteristics:
- Static, debris, and dust throughout the product and product packaging are minimized due to the bonding nature of the manufacturing process.
- Possible incorporate of color with the tip filters as a feature of differentiation.
- Liquid repelling and aerosol removal filter designs are available to protect pipettors from aerosol, radiation, and liquid contamination.
